Dark Bilious Vapors

My eyebrows raised when I read that she's a high school friend of Missi Pyle. If that name doesn't ring a bell, Missi played the role of "Thermian Laliani/Jane Doe" in the movie GalaxyQuest (if that doesn't ring a bell even though you saw the movie, she's the Thermian who became the romantic interest for Tony Shalhoub ("Fred Kwan/Tech Sgt. Chen")). GalaxyQuest is one of my favorite movies, and one of the reasons why is the excellent job Ms. Pyle did in her role.

And while I'm mentioning GalaxyQuest, I'll just voice a question that has puzzled me for a while. Why was Tony Shaloub, who is of Lebanese descent, cast in a role named "Kwan/Chen", which is, by the looks of it, the name of an ethnic Chinese? Shaloub was absolutely perfect in the role, but the ethnic inconsistency here does jar me a little.

After all, it's not like they couldn't have changed the name of the character....
