05/02/2004: That's a winner!!!!
I do feel sorry for Carlos Zambrano, and for most Cub fans today. As I mentioned a bit earlier, Zambrano pitched a magnificent game there, giving up only three hits and striking out an even dozen. Alas for him, Kyle Farnsworth imploded in the bottom of the tenth, walked three batters to fill the bases and then let Scott Rolen hit one off the left field wall to drive in the winning run.
Props to Matt Morris, who was showing some of his old form today, and who managed to go pitch for pitch with Zambrano.
And to top it off, the first one-run, extra innings game that the Cardinals have won in about 10 years. Hope that represents a new trend.
A hell of an exciting game. This is what baseball is supposed to be about.
